Duboisky record: is the transcript a reliable source?

The Records section gives Lorraine Duboisky's 61 hours 14 minutes as fact, sourced to a newspaper that itself cites "the official transcript". The transcript was produced by the IAPY, which has an obvious interest in the record being long. I am not saying she stopped talking. I am saying we do not know she did not. Suggest "according to the association" or similar. CitationGoblin (talk) 11:42, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

The Grand Rapids Morning Pilot had a reporter in the room for at least part of it. That is independent coverage. Reginald Footnote (talk) 13:05, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
"At least part of it" is doing a lot of work there. The byline says the reporter "returned on the third morning". CitationGoblin (talk) 13:20, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hollis (2014), p. 77, accepts the figure and notes that two hotel staff gave statements. I have added nothing yet because I do not want to start another one of these. Margaret Ledger-Pike (talk) 08:51, 3 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Fine. I withdraw the objection, but I want it noted that I withdrew it in fewer words than anyone in this article has ever used. CitationGoblin (talk) 09:02, 3 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Merge Concise Yappers Guild here?

The Guild has about 300 members and its only independent coverage is in the context of the Brevity Heresy. Propose we keep Concise Yappers Guild as a redirect to the Schisms section rather than creating a stub. BoldButCautious (talk) 16:30, 19 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Support. TheTepidTruth (talk) 17:01, 19 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Oppose. The Guild has its own memorandum of understanding, its own founder and a published pamphlet (Pemble 1976). It is notable in its own right, and folding it into the article of the organization it split from is not neutral. Also, if we merge it, the IAPY section will be longer than the Guild's entire history, which I suspect is the point. Quillfeather (talk) 21:14, 19 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Nobody is trying to make a point. I am trying to avoid a stub. BoldButCautious (talk) 07:48, 20 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
For what it is worth, the Guild's own website is one paragraph long and says "See IAPY for background." Reginald Footnote (talk) 10:12, 20 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Comment: no consensus after two weeks. Leaving the redirect to the Schisms section in place for now. Margaret Ledger-Pike (talk) 12:00, 4 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

"Usually pronounced 'yappy'"

Is there a source for the pronunciation in the lead? The 1996 motion is sourced but that only shows that a different pronunciation was proposed, not that "yappy" is usual. TheTepidTruth (talk) 14:22, 8 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

The association's own annual report uses "Yappy Awards" for its internal prizes. That is a primary source but it is fine for how an organization refers to itself. ArchivistOfNonsense (talk) 15:40, 8 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Then cite it, please, rather than telling me about it. TheTepidTruth (talk) 15:41, 8 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Done. ArchivistOfNonsense (talk) 15:58, 8 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
It is not done. The lead still has no footnote after "yappy". TheTepidTruth (talk) 09:30, 9 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

GA review notes

Passed GA review on 12 October 2026. Remaining minor points for whoever has the energy: (1) the 2014 disciplinary hearing claim still has a citation-needed tag; (2) the 2020 champion's duration is from the Digest only; (3) the infobox "language" field is arguably editorializing. None of these held up the review. The reviewer's comments ran to 6,800 words, which I am told is a project record and which several editors have suggested is "on topic". Reginald Footnote (talk) 18:17, 12 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

The language field is quoted directly from the IAPY bylaws, art. 2. It stays. Quillfeather (talk) 19:03, 12 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
